One of our favourite kids’ stores is celebrating their 5 year birthday! Scandi Mini are a beautiful children’s boutique with a showroom in West Kensington. Today they held their Autumn/Winter 16 previews, and we popped along for a peek.
To celebrate their birthday, the store have collaborated with fantastic brands Gardner & The Gang, Nor-Folk, Miniwilla and A Little Party Box who have created unique products that play on the ‘High Five’ theme. In the midst of all of this and planning their press day, the Scandi Mini team put together their recent AW16 lookbook!
The store was curated beautifully and decorated in their signature crisp Scandinavian style. The looks have been divided into three categories ’70’s Child’, ‘Mini Magic’ and ‘Super Natural’. As you would expect, the ’70’s Child’ section was full to the brim with browns, yellows and orange tones, with knits, amazing prints and floaty dresses.
We loved the gorgeous bambi print dress by Mini Rodini, and can’t get over how gorgeous these pom pom socks are by Louise Misha.
‘Mini Magic’ was a stunning collection of magician’s capes, dove prints and mask motifs. Designers included a selection of our very favourites, Bobo Chooses, new collection from the fantastic team at Wolf & Rita, and stunning shoes from Chapter 2.
We couldn’t take our eyes off of the gorgeous selection of footwear in the store, from gem encrusted nude lace ups, gold lustre boots, and of course, blue suede shoes!
‘Super Natural’ focused on gorgeous organic baby and children’s wear in greens, earthtones and yellows. The designs were timeless and beautiful, clothing that can be passed down through the family and still look as great as the day it was bought.
A lot of our favourite looks were designed by Les Enfants favourites Misha and Puff, who we featured back in our Bubble London AW16 review. We also love these wonderful constellation inspired trousers by Bobo Choses.
Other highlights in the store included beautiful ring and pom pom wall decorations by Whole Concept, this stunning swan cape by Bang Bang Copenhagen, and whimsical dolls by Atsuyo Et Akiko. Gabrielle, the owner of Scandi Mini tells of how she can still feel the buzz from when she first opened the store.
“5 years ago Scandi Mini was launched. I still remember the excitement in my stomach, partly because of nerves but mainly it was a positive churn – I couldn’t wait to show off what Scandi Mini was all about.”
Gabrielle continues, “To be truthful, those first 12 months of managing and building the business were very shaky because you know what? I never would have admitted it then but we hardly sold anything. Naively I’d thought there were some easy ways to get us noticed but in fact I had no clue of what I’d gotten myself into and the only way of remission was grit, a lot of work, sweat and tears. And that’s how it all started.”
Well, the work, sweat and tears have most certainly paid off. The website is doing fantastically, and the showroom is a beautifully curated and displayed Aladdin’s cave of kidswear.
The High Five collection is a celebration of the determination and sheer hard work put in by Gabrielle and her team, and features gorgeous grey sweaters and crown and heart print skirts from Gardner and the Gang and a wonderful high fiving bunny poster from Miniwilla.
You can pick up the high five collection and a dangerous amount of other stunning clothing and homeware from the Scandi Mini website. Enjoy!
