Another week, another cake baker!  Being a cake lover pretty much goes hand in hand with party planning.  We adore all things sugar filled, from the modest cupcake to the three tiered show stopper – and boy, does Peggy Porschen do show stoppers.

Founded in 2003, Peggy Porschen has been producing top quality confectionary to an increasingly impressive list of clientele, creating cakes for events Stella McCartney’s wedding, Elton John’s White Tie and Tiara ball and Sir Anthony Hopkin’s 70th birthday party!

Peggy leads her team of talented pastry chefs and sugar craft artists in creating edible works of art for every A List occasion imaginable.  In 2010 the Peggy Porschen Parlour opened in London’s Belgravia.  This bought Peggy’s creations to the high street, introducing her delicious designs to the public on an everyday basis.

You can enjoy fresh cupcakes (including flavours such as banoffee, red velvet and chocolate salted caramel), cookies and layer cakes at her bakery, all washed down with a cup of tea, or for those celebrating, a glass of Laurent Perrier Cuveé Rosé Champagne.  Happy Thursday everyone!  We’re off.

The brand took it’s next step in 2011, when Peggy opened her own academy, London’s first cooking school dedicated purely to baking, cake decoration and sugar craft.

“Knowing from such an early age that I wanted a career in cakes led me to research training courses and search for places of inspiration and new skills. Very quickly I noticed that it wasn’t an easy task. Conventionally, the only professional route to pursue was a traditional apprenticeship as a baker or pastry chef, which to my disappointment didn’t offer much flexibility on the creative side of cake making.”

After much research Peggy enrolled in the Patisserie Diploma at Le Cordon Bleu and the City & Guilds Foundation Course in Sugar Craft where she established the style that has made her bakery so popular.

“Following the success of my company, I began to receive many letters and emails from like-minded people who had also discovered their passion for cakes. They often sought advice regarding how and where to start their careers. It made me realise how grateful I would have been had there been a suitable place for me to learn and start my career, so I set about creating my own curriculum and taught my first masterclass in the winter of 2009.”

If you are a baker in training, you can look forward to a year round curriculum, where you will learn professional techniques that will give you the opportunity to complete a Professional Diploma, and in time, hopefully open your very own bakery!

One and two day courses are also available for those who are looking for a fun kick start course, where you can learn how to create orchids, peonies and roses from sugar!
